Puddle Flanges in Delhi

A puddle flange is the plate welded around a pipe so it can be cast into an RCC wall or water tank and still be watertight — the flange interrupts the path water would otherwise track along the outside of the pipe. Get the position wrong relative to the wall centreline, or the plate diameter too small, and the joint weeps for the life of the structure.

Where should the plate sit on the pipe?

Normally at the centre of the wall or slab thickness, so there is equal concrete cover on both faces and the water path is interrupted at the mid-point. If the drawing says otherwise, follow the drawing — some designs deliberately offset it towards the wet face. Give us the wall thickness and the projection you need each side and we will fabricate to that.

Do I need a puddle flange or a sleeve?

A puddle flange is cast in permanently and is watertight in itself. A sleeve leaves a hole through which a pipe passes later, and needs a separate seal. For water-retaining structures — tanks, sumps, basements — a puddle flange is the correct and usual answer.
