GI Pipes Dealer & Stockist in Delhi

Galvanised iron pipe is mild steel pipe that has been hot-dip zinc coated, which is why it survives in plumbing, potable water and outdoor exposure where black pipe would rust through. The single most important quality parameter is zinc coating mass — IS 1239 requires a minimum of 400 g/m². Cheap GI pipe in the market often falls well short, and you only discover it two monsoons later. Every ISI-marked pipe we supply comes with a coating test result.

GI Pipes — common questions

How do I check whether GI pipe has proper zinc coating?
Look for the ISI mark and ask for the manufacturer's test certificate showing coating mass in g/m² against IS 4736 — it should be 400 g/m² minimum. Visually, a properly galvanised pipe has an even, matte grey finish inside the bore as well as outside; pipes that are bright and shiny only on the outside are usually thinly coated or merely zinc-painted.
Is GI pipe safe for drinking water?
GI pipe has been used for potable water in India for decades and IS 1239 pipe is accepted for the purpose. Over long service the zinc layer eventually depletes and the pipe can contribute rust and taste, which is why many new projects now specify CPVC or stainless steel for potable risers. For fire lines, irrigation and general water service GI remains the practical, economical choice.
Can GI pipes be welded?
They can, but welding burns off the zinc around the joint and creates a corrosion hot spot, and zinc fumes are hazardous. The correct practice for GI is threaded and socketed joints, or grooved couplings, with zinc-rich paint applied to any cut or threaded end.
