How far apart should pipe clamps be?
It depends on pipe size, material and whether the line carries water or gas. As a working rule for water-filled steel pipe, roughly 2 metres for 15-25 mm, 2.5-3 metres for 40-50 mm, and 3.5-4.5 metres for 80-150 mm, with a support adjacent to every valve and change of direction. Your consultant's drawing or the relevant code takes precedence — these are rules of thumb, not a design.
Do I need rubber lined clamps?
On chilled water, pump discharge lines and anything running through occupied space, yes. The rubber breaks the path that carries pump and flow noise into the building structure, and it lets the pipe move slightly with temperature instead of grinding against a steel clamp. On general utility runs in a plant room, plain clamps are fine.
