Mild steel ERW pipe is the backbone of Indian industrial and building services piping — structural work, water lines, fire mains, conduits and general fabrication. The two things buyers get wrong are class and standard. IS 1239 covers sizes up to 150 mm in light (A), medium (B) and heavy (C) class; IS 3589 covers larger diameters where thickness is specified directly in mm. Ordering "2 inch B class" is meaningful; ordering "2 inch pipe" is not, and the price difference between classes is substantial.

What is the difference between A, B and C class MS pipe?

The class defines wall thickness at the same outside diameter. Class A is lightest and cheapest, suitable for low pressure and non-critical service. Class B (medium) is the general-purpose standard for water and fire lines and is what most consultants specify. Class C (heavy) has the thickest wall, for high pressure, buried service and heavy structural use. As thickness rises the weight per metre rises, and since pipe is sold by weight, so does the price.

What is the difference between IS 1239 and IS 3589 pipes?

IS 1239 Part 1 covers ERW steel tubes up to 150 mm nominal bore, classified as light, medium or heavy. IS 3589 covers steel pipes for water and sewage from 150 mm upward, where you specify outside diameter and wall thickness in millimetres rather than a class. Above 150 mm, always quote OD and thickness.

How is MS pipe priced in Delhi?

MS pipe is traded per metric tonne or per kilogram against the mill's ruling price list, plus GST at 18%. Because mill prices move weekly and sometimes daily, any quotation we issue carries a validity date. Our pipe weight calculator lets you convert your metre requirement to tonnage so you can compare quotes accurately.

Do you supply cut lengths or only 6 metre pipes?

Both. Standard supply is 6 metre random length. We also cut to your required length in-house for a small cutting charge, which usually works out cheaper than paying for offcuts you cannot use.
